1969 at the Barrowlands Ballroom in Glasgow: three women are murdered by an Old Testament-quoting serial killer, later nicknamed Bible John. He has never been caught.
2019: four women, bound by an obsession with true crime, want to change that. Immersing themselves in the world of Bible John and his victims, they try to solve the case once and for all.
Bible John is a riotous, furious, joyful exploration of violence, gender and one of Scotland’s darkest mysteries.
Project History
The first draft of Bible John saw the team become the recipient of the Pleasance’s Charlie Hartill Reserve for the Fringe in 2019. The show ran at Pleasance Above for the full festival in 2019, selling out every performance and being featured in the New York Times, BBC Radio Scotland and selected as a top pick by The Stage, WhatsOnStage and Lyn Gardner. Bible John was then picked up to run at VAULT Festival in 2020, where it was a top pick of the Evening Standard. This upscaled version of the show received a raft of five star reviews and an OffWestEnd short run commendation.
The beginnings of a studio tour was booked for Autumn 2020, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
We are now looking to tour Bible John in 2023 to studio venues in the UK, particularly Scotland. To request the touring pack and/or production video, please email Producer, Grace Dickson.
